There is an alarming growth in the cases of violence against women all over the world. Around the globe, at least one woman in every three has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime.Most often the abuser is a member of her own family. Increasingly, gender based violence is recognized as a major public health concern and a violation of human rights.
One in five women will be a victim of rape or attempted rape in her lifetime,In India there are close to 15,000 dowry deaths estimated per year. Mostly they are kitchen fires designed to look like accidents .
At least 60 million girls who would otherwise be expected to be alive are “missing” from various populations as a result of sex-selective abortions or inadequate care as they are seen less important than boys .
Wc treats all discrimination as violence of women rights, creating awareness to general public through public meeting ,cultural shows and demonstration and information of the latest bill protecting women from domestic violence 2005 and the same information is been disseminated throughout Tamilnadu.
Every Year ( November 25th is international day on violence against women to 10th december ,Human rights day)Fortnight campaign is organized to create awareness about violation of rights of women.
Women's collective runs a Crisis center and short stay home in Chennai which provides councilling,legal support and livelihood training as and when needed.
