Women's forum Against violence on Women

In Collaboration with other women's groups and the local women's movement,the forum was setup in 1994 ,to proactively educate the public on the issue of violence against women.Popularly projected as Black thursday:A silent Protest,the Wc members clad themselves in black clothes every thursday and undertake at least one hour demonstration while distributing leaflets to passersby .The location of the protest is shifted from one place to another to spread the messages across the city of Chennai,the capital of Tamilnadu.Similar demonstrations in the last years have spread to the other districts.
The black Thursday campaign takes its name from the atrocities and violence perpetrated against women during 1991 Israel/Palestinian confrontation.They were later joined by the women's movement in other countries who also wore black clothes as an expression of the solidarity.
The women's forum on violence against women provided a strong force in having the tamilnadu state pass the 1998 Anti-sexual harassment government order.
