Women’s Collective (WC) is a Not for Profit Organization of more than 1,00,000 Women members spread across 19 districts in Tamil Nadu, which is working for all round empowerment of the marginalized particularly women, children and elders, especially in rural areas.
The Collective is facilitated by Ms. Sheelu through participatory process and was started way back in 1994. It was the time when leadership of women among NGOs was a rare affair and mostly women were field workers executing orders at village level. Now WC work covers more than 1000 villages falling under 21 Parliament constituencies, 50 assembl yconstituencies, 581 Village Panchayats, 72 taluks, 88 unions, 4 City Corporations, and 21 districts. The Team consists of 80 volunteers at varied levels and 40 coordinators. 54% of Volunteers are Dalits, 36% are Single women, and 1% are Physically Challenged. 61% Hindu. 38% Christians, 1% Muslim, and 3% men.
WC was registered under Tamil Nadu Societies registration act 1975 on 15th of September, 2001 as a not for Profit Voluntary organization. It is been registered under 12 A section of Income Tax and has Income Tax exemptions u/s 80G, WC got its FCRA registration in August 2016 under the new FCRA act 2010.
